Killer Joe Movie Review McConaughey Brilliant
Summary:
I give this a solid 5 stars. Dark and funny, McConaughey is brilliant.
Killer Joe movie review by Kris Barry. In Cinemas Now in U.S. This film comes from director William Friedkin. Most well known for the 1973 horror The Exorcist. This will most certainly hold a worldwide R rating and I won’t be surprised if some cinema houses choose not to show this film. Staring an exceptional cast this film truly hits every mark for an A grade raw gritty American comedy/thriller. This is without doubt the heaviest roll that Matthew McConaughey has done to date and he is funny, dark and brilliant!
Set in Texas the film follows the son of a broken trailer park family that has a debt to repay to a local kingpin. In order to repay his debt he searches out a hit man to have his nasty mother killed, collect the insurance and square all debts but things aren’t so simple.Soon the whole family is involved and his virgin sister becomes the centre of a story that begins to get serious. I don’t want to give anymore of this film away as it just must be watched, but be warned! This film is not for the faint hearted and although quite humorous at times gets very dark and serious! I felt an level of unease throughout the film that only a director of brilliance could make happen, combine that with a superb choice of actors such as Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon this also has a brilliantly written and constructed storyline.
