Natalie Portman – an ode to.. The Actress

She has definitely become one of my favourite actresses over the last few years, with a completely remarkable performance in Black Swan. Natalie Portman never picks the same character and is always doing an array of different films. Here is her Top 5..

LEON THE PROFFESSIONAL

Mathilda (Natalie Portman) is only 12 years old, but is already familiar with the dark side of life: her abusive father stores drugs for corrupt police officers, and her mother neglects her. Léon (Jean Reno), who lives down the hall, tends to his houseplants and works as a hired hitman for mobster Tony (Danny Aiello). When her family is murdered by crooked DEA agent Stansfield (Gary Oldman), Mathilda joins forces with a reluctant Léon to learn his deadly trade and avenge her family’s deaths. - 4 1/2 stars

GARDEN STATE

Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) shuffled through life in a lithium-induced coma until his mother’s death inspired a vacation from the pills to see what might happen. A moderately successful TV actor living in Los Angeles, ”Large” hasn’t been home to the ”Garden State” in nine years. But even with 3,000 miles between them, he’s been unable to escape his domineering father Gideon (Sir Ian Holm) and the silencing effect he’s had on his sonfrom afar. – 5 stars

V FOR VENDETTA

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption. – 4 stars

BLACK SWAN – (Best – 5 star)

Nina (Natalie Portman) is a ballerina whose passion for the dance rules every facet of her life. When the company’s artistic director decides to replace his prima ballerina for their opening production of ”Swan Lake,” Nina is his first choice. She has competition in newcomer Lily (Mila Kunis) however. While Nina is perfect for the role of the White Swan, Lily personifies the Black Swan. As rivalry between the two dancers transforms into a twisted friendship, Nina’s dark side begins to emerge. – 5 stars

THOR

At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learnswhat it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. – 4 1/2 stars

Lifelong friends Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) take their relationship to the next level by having sex. Afraid of ruining their friendship, the new lovers make a pact to keep things purely physical, with no fighting, no jealousy and no expectations. Emma and Adam pledge to do whatever they want, wherever they want, as long as they do not fall in love. The question then becomes, which one will fall first? – 4 stars

CLOSER

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen, and Jude Law and Natalie Portman star as two couples who engage in a story of love and commitment. Their lives are permanently altered when two of them have a passionate affair. – 4 stars
